Kaiken is the Argentine project of Arelio Montes. One of the most successful enologists and wine personalities in Chilean viticulture, founder of Montes wines. Not being satisfied with just expanding the horizons of Chilean winemaking, he set his sights on the other side of the Andes. The new project took its name from the goose that regularly travels over the Andes, back and forth from Chile to Argentina, the Caiquen. He and his son have been making wine in Argentina for decades, their style was rich, full bodied and unafraid of oak, a very Californian style. The indomito line is their newest offering, and it offers a straight divergence from their house style. The fruit is sourced from vineyards in Altamira, at almost 4000 feet elevation with soils that are limestone rich. This is a hedonistic expression of Malbec, Kaikens wines are always fun to drink, but this is fermented and aged in concrete tanks. This feels like old school Malbec but it is cleaner, fresher and more aromatic. Cherries, bramble fruits, violets, herbs and a dusty minerality on the nose and palate. Juicy round and almost too easy to drink. Seriously delicious wines.
Decanter World Wine Awards 2021 "Lifted perfumed nose of violets, lilies and roses over beautiful dark fruit and baking spice undertones. Really fresh and juicy, with lovely sweetness, floral elegance.
A pleasant malbec with blackberries, stems and fresh flowers on the nose and palate. Medium body, light tannins and fruity finish. Not a big wine, but shows good intensity. Vegan.
